Of course the environment I've produced will not be complete without a matte painting for the rest of the background so I looked up references and found some original photos of old London in the 1940s as well as other demolished sites and combined several images into one background using Photoshop. Of course as I'm doing a slightly stylized version of London, I've decided that a matte painting that's too photorealistic should be toned down so I made it look a bit more like a painting.

Altered image of matte painting, did some paintbrush work and added a faded Gaussian Blur effect to make look more like a painting.
